J&J Dog Supplies. According to their website: “The ultimate destination for dog training equipment and supplies.” We'd have to agree!
Bark 'n Purr: A great place to get natural dog foods and training equipment. This “brick & mortar” store is located in Austin, on Burnet, just north of 45th. The salespeople are always pleasant and helpful. Well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome.
The following is a list of some of our favorite Austin-area Dog Friendly Public Places. Please give them your business and mention to their managers that one of the reasons you're there is because they are dog friendly. Company policies toward dogs change frequently and without notice, so you might want to check first before bringing your canine friend along.
Sonic (all). Well-behaved dogs on-leash are welcome on their patio. The staff are always friendly and they usually bring your dog a milkbone. You can't beat that!
The Boat House Grill (620 & 2222). Great food plus your well-behaved dogs on-leash are welcome in their outdoor area. Even in the heat of August, this area is comfortable and the ground is covered in cool, smooth rocks that dogs love to lay on.
Lowe’s (Shoal Creek/Anderson Ln., Sunset Valley, & The Shops at the Galleria, Bee Cave). Unlike other huge, orange home improvement stores (that will remain unnamed), well-behaved dogs on-leash are welcome in Lowe's. Give them your business!
Office Depot (Sunset Valley). This is the only office supply store we've found that allows your dog to accompany you. Please, only well-behaved dogs on-leash. We don't want them to have to change their progressive policy and return to the dark ages like another of the large office supply chains recently did.
Dog & Duck Pub (Guadalupe & 17th). Great food and spirits, great people, and your well-behaved dogs on-leash are welcome in their outdoor area.

Sunset Canyon Veterinary Clinic has been my vet since 2001 and I couldn't be happier. The facilities are clean, modern and extensive, and they can handle anything from pet animals to livestock. The first thing you'll notice when you walk in the door is that, unlike most vets, there are 4-5 people there to greet you. The staff are exceptionally friendly and even though they in-process you quickly, they take the time to chat with you in that small-town Drippin' manner. My vet there over the years has been Dr. Glen Portie, and I'm particularly impressed with him. It seems that a lot of doctors nowadays (both vets and personal physicians) tend to zip into the examination room, go over the patient real quick, throw some medication at the problem, then zip out as quickly as they appeared. Usually the only thing that gets treated is the symptoms. Not so with Dr. Portie. He takes the time to get to know you and your pet, and he digs hard to get at the root of the problem. Once he gets to the source, he never tells you what to do- he gives you all your options and lets you decide what treatment is best for your pet.
